Once upon a time there was only one registrar. They had no competition. They
sucked. (They still do.)
Fortunately, the system was opened to competition and once I realized how bad I had it I went out in search of a new registrar. GoDaddy had a funny name, but the product was cheap and the service seemed easy to operate. I began moving my domain registrations to GoDaddy and I've never looked back.
GoDaddy ownz. I even have a couple secure certificates thanks to GoDaddy. It took GoDaddy to finally make the process reasonable and doable for me. Verisign? Ugh. Don't even mention that company to me.
I've even moved almost all of my workplaces active domains to GoDaddy. I say
almost because I can't move our EDU domain over. If only they managed EDU
domains. I can dream, can't I?
Foundry may not be a Cisco killer, but they've got some really nice routers
and switches that, like the products from most of Cisco's competitors, are
very attractively priced. They don't have all the bells and whistles of a
Cisco, but how many people actually use them? Once we ran through the
evaluation process, it was obvious that Foundry met our criteria and at a
much lower price point.
Foundry is a major vendor where I work now. They've still got some catching up to do (their website is just terrible functionality wise), but overall they've been a solid company to date.
In the most recent round of evaluations, Foundry managed to hold on to our
business. We will be deploying a virtual router infrastructure to support all
of our differing major business units with the IMR640 routers.
