Pet Heaven
Teddy & Bear
I bought these two guys back in May of 1988 when I was living
in Pensacola, Florida. They were brand new residents at the pet
store and were in the same cage. Teddy & Bear were almost the same
age (2 weeks difference) and had been together since being weened.
I, of course, wanted 1 of them and my SO wanted the other, so I just
bought them both. They were absolutely inseparable. Bear
was the boss, but Teddy was the brains. Bear was a sprinter and Teddy was
rather slow, yet when they got lost once in 1994 they stayed together
until they were caught by the authorities. They don't look like a
pair of convicts, do they? They were raised with cats and think
nothing of hanging around with them. Their first playmate was Spook
(RIP). Their second feline friend was Paws, but he was too
wild and ended up going to another home with more space that he could
claim for his own. Then there was Kitty (Don't start.. I know its not
very original) who was a stray that wandered into my old apartment
and decided she was staying. Kitty (RIP) is also gone. Their last feline
companion was Mittens. She wasn't sure of hanging around with dogs at first,
but she became a full-fledged member of the pack!
Bear
Bear was a pure-bred Schipperke. I pronounce it skipper-key but not everybody
agrees with me. I had originally planned to register Bear as a pure-bred,
which required a unique name. So his "full name" is really
"Bear E. Rough Tough Stuff" since he seems to think he's
Super-Dog. Bear was quite the sprinter and loved to run and play ball. He could
also catch the ball in mid-air about 95% of the time and loved to jump up and
snatch it. Bear waited patiently for a fenced in back yard for years. His last
years of life saw his wish come true. He certainly liked running around out
there. I definitely miss him a lot even though he's been gone for years.
Teddy
Teddy was the dog my SO wanted. He was a yippy dog with long impossible
to keep clean white hair. Even worse, he loved dirt and couldn't stand being
clean for any length of time. (sigh) Teddy's nickname was The
Fluff-meister. Teddy was a very good beggar and could sit up on his
hind legs for hours at a time, even hopping around on them when necessary.
He also lived to lick people and could do so for hours on end. I was
always sure that he would wear out his tongue, but it never did happen.
All good pets go to heaven.
